The Executive Council

Serving as the governing body of the King County Healthcare Coalition, the Executive Council is comprised of executives from a wide range of healthcare organizations across King County.

Members of the Executive Council meet quarterly with an elected Chair and Vice-Chair serving as the primary officers. The Executive Council is designed to be a representative body that reflects the different sectors of the healthcare system.

The Executive Council:
  • Establishes the mission and strategic direction
  • Determines the Coalition’s legal and organizational structure
  • Reviews and approves the Coalition budget
  • Provides policy level oversight of the Coalition’s committees, workgroups, and projects
  • Approves regional and health sector emergency preparedness plans
  • Represents the Healthcare Coalition and advises the Local Health Officer on healthcare policy issues during response

Johnese Spisso, RN, MPA, is the Chief Health System Officer for UW Medicine Health System, and the Vice President for Medical Affairs, UW. Johnese has over 25 years experience in health care leadership positions. She has worked at UW Medicine for the past 16 years. Johnese worked at Harborview Medical Center for 15 years where she was steadily promoted from the Chief Nursing Officer, to Chief Operating Officer and served as the interim UW Executive Director prior to being promoted to Chief Health System Officer and Vice President for Medical Affairs role in 2007.

David C. Grossman, MD, MPH, is a senior investigator at the Group Health Research Institute and the medical director for preventive care at Group Health Cooperative. He practices outpatient pediatrics at the Group Health Factoria clinic and a professor of Health Services and adjunct professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington.

A graduate of the U.C. Berkeley and the UCLA Schools of Medicine, Dr. Grossman completed his pediatric residency training at the University of North Carolina, and a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar fellowship at the University of Washington. Dr. Grossman was a full time faculty member in Pediatrics at UW and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for 14 years. He was the director of the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center from 2000 to 2004.
