H1N1 2009
On April 26, 2009 the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) declared a Public Health Emergency due to the rapid spread of a flu virus. Human cases of swine influenza A, or H1N1, infection had been identified in several countries around the world. In response to this situation, Public Health – Seattle & King County activated King County Health and Medical Area Command on Monday, April 27, 2009. Initial response ended in May 2009 and began again in September 2009, lasting over 100 consecutive days.

Winter Storm 2008
In December 2008, the Puget Sound area experienced severe winter weather that impacted healthcare delivery throughout the region. A two-week cycle of snow accumulation resulted in icy roads and treacherous travel conditions, creating challenges for healthcare workers, patients, and the general public throughout Western Washington. This report outlines the experiences and lessons learned from that event.
